PASKUHANG PINOY
A FILIPINO CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL

Not even the fog and the coldness of Daly City interrupted the huge crowd that was eager and curious what a Filipino Christmas Festival looks like.

“PASKUHANG PINOY”, the 2 day celebration of Filipino Christmas was launched at Moose Lodge, Daly City last Dec. 8 & 9, 2007. The festival was conceptualized and created to become the most celebrated entertainment and marketing event for Filipinos during Christmas Season. It was a Christmas extravaganza filled with different activities like Parol Contest, Christmas Choir Competition, Kakanin Contest, 2 days of non-stop entertainment and Christmas Bazaars.

Joey and Maite Mendoza laboriously planned the Filipino Christmas Festival three months ago immediately after the successful Adobo Festival that was held at Newark on September 2007.

The prominent visitors who graced the occasion were Daly City's Mayor CAROL KLATT, Daly City and Quezon City's Friendship former president PERLA ABARIENTOS.  State senator LELAND YEE was represented by DAVID CANEPA, RUDY and MYRNA GORERO, DR. ROY and BABY AGUSTIN and their grandchildren, ISABEL and DIEGO were also there and so was JIMMY ZALDEVEA and GALINA IVASHKOFF, the better half of actor/writer KARIM KIRAM  but more known as  AFLAC agent . DINNAH and DAVE SAN PEDRO, publishers and editors of the Philippine Fiesta of Sacramento were present and as usual, gave their generous support to Joey's efforts. THELMA CRUZ of Pinoy Today who entered her sumptuous Mini Bibingka won in the “Kakanin Competition”. Moose Lodge's debonair Administrator CRAIG BURK was busy lending a helping hand.

The following business establishments supported and sponsored the festival by putting up booths or stalls for their companies: COMCAST & GMA PINOY TV, WESTERN UNION, MARILYN PEREZ OF REALTY WORLD, XOOM, TANCINCO LAW OFFICES, BENCH, PBC PRINTING & HARD HATS BISTRO, CACHE CREEK, MANILA BULLETIN, MANILA MAIL, PHILIPPINE FIESTA, PINOY TODAY, COLORTILE, YTB TRAVEL, FIVE LINKX AND BOBO'S PIZZA & FILIPINO RESTAURANT.

The Filipino Christmas Festival, appropriately entitled "Paskuhang Pinoy" opened with TRACY SARMIENTO singing the Philippine and United States anthems. Prominent movie actor/comedian PROSPERO LUNA in a Santa Claus costume and DAVE RODRIGUEZ , titillated the audience with their antics as they emceed the show. The outstanding performances of DANIKA CAMINS, JUSTIN MANALAC, CATHY QUERUBIN, LEA PAUTIN, JESSE CALDA, NORLYN VICENTE, MICAH and GRACEANN GREGORIO, MICHELLE VALENCIA, DAISY VALLESFINO, and the female groups ANGEL ACE and PURPLE LACE thrilled the crowd.

The performers for the last day of the festival were JIKA CAMINS, AILEEN PAPIN, comic/actor DON PEPOT and Filipina movie actress and Phenomenal Diva, JESSA ZARAGOZA, who was a big hit among the audience. She not only sings well but her stage presence was mesmerizing.

Manny Espinosa of Bayanihan Cargo donated 2 Balikbayan Boxes which was raffled by Jessa Zaragoza. Beauty Impresario Ferdie Villar donated a 2 huge Christmas Trees which was also raffled during the event.

Filipino Version of Santa Claus “Santa Pros” was busy giving away candy canes to the children. The poplular “SpiderMan Jumping Jack” was also a hit to the kids.

“I would like to commend producer JOEY CAMINS and his company for envisioning another Filipino Festival for Christmas. FYI, Joey Camins is also the producer of the yearly “Adobo Festival” - A Celebration of Filipino Food and Music and the annual Fil-Am Battle of the Bands. My salute to JS Camins Productions for initiating this kind of events which promotes a distinct Filipino identity”. The theme of the whole festival was about Filipino Christmas, I thought about what do I really want for Christmas and I said to myself, I wish that the Fil-American communities of California would one day realize that lack of harmony and solidarity among themselves would deny them the road to success that could propel them, as an ethnic group, to a newer and higher level of love of country.” Karim Kiram stated.
